Econo
Combining members of the Veils of Ignorance and The Put-Downs, Econo brings a blend of political punk rock, silly garage rock and southern influences to the stage. The band is the newest signing to Smelly Menace and is currently working on their first release, The Recession.
500 Megatons of Boogie
With enough power to make anyone shake their ass, members of the Squishees started powerhouse band, 500 Megatons of Boogie. With a spring release date, their new album will get the kids dancing in the streets and their parents getting down in the house.
Molly Maguires
One fascinating thing about the Molly Maguires is that everyone loves them. In a scene dominated by self-serving cliques that proclaim, “Everyone else sucks!”, no one dislikes the Molly Maguires. The Punks like their energy; Metal-heads appreciate their technical proficiency; Country music fans say their songs are nice, even if they do look funny. Watch out, you may go to a show for some partying fun, and see your parents rocking out up front . Jamming through sets that include surf rock standards, space rock jams, and frenetic picking stomps, the Molly Maguires are true instrumental virtuosos. Look in the dictionary under crowd-pleasers and you may very well find their picture. Want to impress a date? Take them to a Molly Maguires show.
The Koopas
Formed in early 1999 (the members like to say it was on Valentine's Day '99, but who knows?), The Koopas were comprised of 2 thirds (or "half", now) of the Texas punk pop combo, Joe Jitsu - Charmin' Charlie on bass and Tron Carter on drums (and Kool trucks) - and fronted by a lovelorn young man by the name of Poppy Robbie. The band momentarily switched bass players during the next year (2000), bringing in local ECW fan and fellow good music-listener, Jacob Vance in Charlie's place. The band recorded a cdr demo containing live tracks which was given out/sold at shows, then soon recorded an 8 song project which ultimately landed in the hands of Smelly Menace, saving it from oblivion in the year 2001 (by this time Jacob had moved and Charlie had taken back his post as bass player in the band - for history sake, the recording was coupled up with the two demo tracks from the demo cdr, making the Smelly Menace project more of a complete history of the recordings of the band before the (then) present time). Later that year the band released their most popular release, self-releasing a 6 song 7" EP called "When Opposites Attack". The Koopas recorded more and played regularly in the SE Texas area up until 2002, where they fizzled away, until this past Feb '05, when they played an official "last show". Today, Charlie and Tron are still playing in the great Joe Jitsu and Robbie is playing with himself...Not like that. Well...
The Squishees
The Squishees are a rock band from Houston who don' t sound like any other rock band you've heard. Alternating and blending Punk with Funk, with a dash of blues, and a pinch of metal, they make a high-energy, vitamin fortified Rock n' Roll Squishee that will get you through your busy day. Get dosed up close and personal at one of their legendary live sets; just watch out for discarded slurpees, vacuum cleaner innards, defective gear, etc. that might be thrown your way.
